At PJ’s Honeys, we believe exceptional food starts with exceptional ingredients.
What began as a shared fascination with bees and a love for great food has grown into a passion-driven business producing premium raw honey, handcrafted hot honey, and unique honey-fermented delicacies from the Cape West Coast of South Africa.
Every jar we produce reflects our commitment to quality, authenticity, and traditional small-batch craftsmanship.
Our bees forage across the pristine landscapes surrounding Langebaan, gathering nectar from the rich diversity of indigenous fynbos and coastal flora that make the West Coast one of South Africa’s most unique honey-producing regions.
The result is honey with remarkable character, complexity, and flavour that changes naturally with the seasons.
In real life, we are Pieter and Philip. Between us, we share more than 140 years of life experience, a love for good food, and an unexpected journey into beekeeping. Pieter, a Sasol pensioner, originally wanted to discover whether the legendary Cape Honey Bee (Apis mellifera capensis) was truly as gentle as people claimed when compared to the Scutellata bees found north. Philip, a successful cattle farmer, former chef, and restauranteur from the Malmesbury district, unexpectedly inherited responsibility for several beehives following the untimely passing of his brother.
What started as curiosity and circumstance soon became something much bigger. Before we knew it, we had become custodians of more than 3 million Cape Honeybees.

Today, our hives thrive on virtually pristine farmland outside Langebaan, neighbouring private nature reserves and the renowned West Coast National Park.
Our bees forage naturally across:
These diverse floral sources create honey with subtle herbal, floral, and citrus characteristics that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
Each harvest tells a slightly different story, shaped by seasonal rainfall, flowering cycles, and the incredible resilience of our indigenous vegetation.
We are passionate about understanding and protecting the unique character of Cape West Coast honey.
Through collaboration with scientists from the University of Cape Town, we support ongoing efforts to identify and fingerprint local honey varieties through:
This helps showcase the authenticity and uniqueness of honey produced in our region, and contributes to the depth of the West Coast Honey fingerprint. Science can confirm authenticity
When we say our honey is the real thing, we mean it.
